With the goal of improving the lives of adults with developmental disabilities, communities of practice seeks to provide a fuller life experience by increasing community involvement and quality-of-life for those we serve.
Communities of practice has gained greater support from providers and government agencies in recent years but has been a cornerstone at Providence Center for some time. It has improved the transition of youths into adult programs and the outcomes for those we serve. This key strategy has increased awareness and outreach on behalf of those with developmental disabilities, building stronger community support and new partnerships.
By emphasizing person-centered planning, Providence Center has focused on programs that enable those we serve to live and work in the world. Our supported employment program and community partners are key to achieving the goals of communities of practice and a good quality of life for each individual.
Providence Center knows that every person should have their voice heard in how they want to live their lives and what they want for their future. Through open communication with families and caregivers, Providence Center participants receive the support they need to define and achieve their personal goals. Community involvement further enhances experiences and leads to gaining greater independence over one's life.
